Auckland Council Renews Support for Community Coordinator Role

Mahurangi West Pest is incredibly grateful to Auckland Council for its continued support through the Regional Environment and Natural Heritage (RENH) Grant Programme.

We are delighted to have secured $18,500 towards funding our Community Coordinator and Facilitator role for another year. As interest in community conservation continues to grow, having a dedicated coordinator ensures we can support more volunteers, respond to new opportunities, and build on the momentum that has already been created across Mahurangi West

The RENH Grant Programme received a high number of quality applications this year, making the funding round particularly competitive. We are therefore especially pleased that our project was recognised and supported, reflecting the strength of our community-led approach to conservation.

While Mahurangi West Pest is powered by volunteers, coordinating a growing community conservation programme requires dedicated planning, organisation, and communication. Funding for our Community Coordinator and Facilitator role provides the support needed to keep projects running smoothly, strengthen community participation, and ensure volunteers have the guidance and resources they need to make a lasting impact.

The role is responsible for coordinating volunteers, organising community events and restoration projects, supporting community-led initiatives, and fostering collaboration across the peninsula. It also focuses on securing additional funding, developing partnerships with organisations such as Auckland Council, The Forest Bridge Trust, Restore Rodney East, and Mahurangi Regional Park, and keeping our community informed through newsletters, annual reports, and our website.

Over the coming year, this funding will help us continue expanding our volunteer network, supporting landowners and community members, delivering restoration projects, strengthening partnerships, and securing additional funding to grow our work even further.

Auckland Council’s investment in community-led conservation extends far beyond financial support. Through ongoing advice, training opportunities, and collaboration, the Council continues to play an important role in helping groups like ours achieve lasting environmental outcomes.

We sincerely thank Auckland Council for its continued confidence in Mahurangi West Pest and the work of our dedicated volunteers. We’d also like to extend a special thank you to Rebecca Kemp for her ongoing support, guidance, and encouragement. Together, we’re making a real difference for nature and helping protect the biodiversity of Mahurangi West for future generations.
