Esplanade Planting Bee

Make a Difference Week: June 1 – 9, 2024

A Week of Global Restoration Action Hosted by the Society for Ecological Restoration

On Sunday, twelve community volunteers braved the weather to dig in 144 native ground cover plants on the near vertical site on the edge of the Jamieson Bay Esplanade Reserve. Plants included native flax, astelia, Hebe, Daphne and iris.

Above: Dan Marrow, a park ranger with the Rodney Local Board, unloads trays of healthy native plants which his organisation donated for our coastal rehabilitation project.

Above: Our team of volunteers made short work of the weeds and rubbish like the faded old cone pictured. Once the plants were in the ground, there was just time for a BBQ, also delivered along with the plants by Dan Marrow (Rodney Local Board), before the rain set in.
