Environmental Team’s Visit

Wanting greater insight into the work we do, eight northern team members from Auckland Council’s environmental division visited Mahurangi West in late 2024.

MWP’s Chair, Brian Bramell began the tour at Opaheke Pt (cliff plantings, area maps), then the pine-felling project, Huawai Bay (iwi land rehabilitation, harbour silt reduction); and the Albert Dennis Reserve (weeds, trapping, public access).

Mike Neil (pictured below), demonstrates an auto-trap for possums and a double-stoat trap, which are proving highly successful. He led the tour group along the ridge in the Pohuehue pest control hub, to view MWP’s newest traplines.

Brian Bramell (below) helps cut the first ridgeline track in hub 9, earlier in 2024. Mike Neil Hub 4 coordinator (left) and Mick Cleland, newly appointed pest control coordinator for Hub 9 (Pohuehue), volunteered to set up traps along the 2 kilometres-long ridgeline tracks.
